Poupelin, Banane, and Orangeat control the Bonbon Babies to attack their enemies. Poupelin controls the blue Bonbon Babies, Banane controls the orange ones, and Orangeat controls the red ones. The three fairies
play a tune on their pipes to make their Papillottes become Bonbon Babies. Perle can use his flute to stop Poupelin’s Bonbon Babies from attacking, but he does not make them to attack the sailor soldiers. In the Materials Collection, Ms. Takeuchi wrote this about the Bonbon Babies: “The image of newborn babies. (But their hair is abundant.) The
image of babies of the colorful candy balls. There are babies of various colors. They seem like impertinent kids. Piercingly loud. Anyway, they often laugh, and they often cry. They all have the same hairstyle and the same face.”
Bonbons are candies that often have a center of fondant, fruit, or nuts. They are covered with chocolate of fondant.
