zora, Kakeru
[ zora Kakeru]

Kakeru, the brilliant astronomer who finds one of Princess Snow Kaguya’s ice crystals, saves Luna from being run over by a car in the Bishjo Senshi Sr Mn S movie.  He takes care of the sick cat at the astronomical observatory.  Luna begins to like him very much.  She witnesses the argument between Kakeru and Himeko.  Kakeru tells Luna about the Taketori Monogatari (Tale of the Bamboo Cutter), which he liked since his childhood.  He thinks that there really is a princess living on the moon.

Later, Luna comes to visit Kakeru, who is suffering from a mysterious illness.  Himeko does not allow the cat to visit Kakeru.  Luna thinks to herself that she cannot come in to see Kakeru because she is a cat.  After Luna discovers that the ice crystal is causing Kakeru’s illness, she wishes that she could help Kakeru.  When she goes to visit Kakeru again, she discovers that he is not at the astronomical observatory.  She soon finds him lying unconscious in the snow.

She thinks that she could help him by becoming his Princess Kaguya.  The Silver Crystal grants Luna’s wish of becoming a human after the sailor soldiers defeat Princess Snow Kaguya.  They appear in space and Kakeru thinks that the human woman is Luna.  Luna tells Kakeru that he has to be there for the one who truly loves him.  Kakeru, who is still lying in the snow, wakes up and feels better.  When Himeko gets back to Earth, she sees Kakeru and the two of them hug.

Kakeru’s personal name sounds like a Japanese verb (kakeru) that means to fly or to soar.  That term can also be used as a Japanese personal name, which mean universe or space, are usually read as uch zora means heaven.  In Kakeru's case, the kanji are read as zora.  His full name should give one the idea of traveling in space.

Masami Kikuchi ( Kikuchi Masami) provided the voice for Kakeru zora in the Bishjo Senshi Sr Mn S movie.
