Flower Monster Glycina
[
Hana Y
ma Gurishina]
Glycina is the name of the flower monster with six green legs. It grows from a certain pink flower on the street in Tokyo. (That flower originally came from outer space.) Glycina is evidently the source of the energy that uses the evil vines to control the people who have become zombies. Sailor Moon manages to defeat Glycina with her Moon Princess Halation.
The name of the monster most likely came from the plant genus name Glycine (which is in the bean family Fabaceae). The Japanese use the combination
gurishin to approximate glycine (
Gurishina is similar to
gurishin). Glycine is part of the name Glycine clandestina, which is species of flowering plant. Glycine max is the binomial nomenclature of the soybean. Tofu is by far the most famous of the soybean products. Glycine is derived from the Greek word
(glykeros) which means sweet.
Wakana Yamazaki (
Yamazaki Wakana) provided the voice for Glycina in the original Japanese version of the Bish

M
