Alien Fiore
[
Iseijin Fiore]
Fiore is the name of the alien who came to Earth when he was a child and became friends with the young Mamoru. Before Fiore left Earth, Mamoru gave Fiore a beautiful rose to make him happy. Fiore promised that he will eventually give Mamoru a flower as a present. The Bish

n R movie tells the story of Fiore’s return to Earth to give Mamoru the special flower that he promised. Unfortunately, Xenian, the flower that Fiore finds during his travels around the universe, is a powerful monster that takes over his weak soul. Under Xenian’s influence, he vows to kill everybody on Earth who had made Mamoru feel lonely. He punishes Usagi and her friends until he learns that the flower that Mamoru gave him in the past was actually a present from the young Usagi. When Fiore releases Usagi, she is free to use her power to eliminate Xenian. Fiore later helps Mamoru revive the apparently dead Usagi.
Some have said that Fiore looks as if he belongs to Al’s and En’s race, but the Bish

n R movie says nothing about Fiore’s home planet. Fiore says that he does not know when and where he was born.
Fiore’s name has been written as “Fioret” elsewhere, but “fioret” is not as widely-recognized as fiore is. Moreover, the characters that spell Fiore’s name in Japanese,
, are read Fiore, not Fioreto. Others have written his name as “Fioreail,” but that spelling is also erroneous. It could be that the “Ail” came from the Japanese spelling of Al’s name,
Eiru, but Fiore is not ever called
Fioreeiru in the movie or anywhere else. Unfortunately, even Animerica magazine printed “Fioreail” in the Sailor Moon R: The Movie section of its Animerica Feature: The Sailor Moon Movies article.
The Italian word fiore means flower. Fiore and the English word flower are derived from the Latin word fl
s, which means flower or blossom. Flora was a goddess of flowers in Roman mythology. Florence, the capital city of both the Firenze province and the Tuscany region of central Italy, has at one time been called Fiorenza, which supposedly means City of Flowers, by the Italians. Its Latin name is Florentia. Today, the Italians call that city Firenze.
According to the Bish

n R Movie Memorial Album, director Kunihiko Ikuhara (
Ikuhara Kunihiko) said that Fiore’s full name is written in Japanese as
Fiorieiru. The
fiori element of the name can approximate fiori, which is a form of the Italian word fiore. The
eiru element approximates the al part of the English word alien when it stands by itself. The Japanese approximate the English word alien by writing
eirian. The Latin-letter spelling of Fiore’s full name can be Fiorial.
Tomoko Maruo (
