Sailor Moon Live Action Series Synopsis writer search

We're currently looking for someone to take up Claudia's mantle for this week and once she leaves Japan in late December. Its going to be a tough role to fill! And make no mistake about it, the task isn't as easy as it seems.

If you're reading this I'm assuming you've met the basic requirements we mentioned on the front page. You've certainly noticed, from reading Claudia's synopses, that she knows the Japanese language quite well and clearly dedicated a lot of time to each synopsis. If in watching the episodes on your own you needed her synopsis to help understand what was going on, this job probably isn't for you. (If you read the synopsis just for my stupid captions, then I applaud you.)

We would prefer, to begin with, that the candidate be someone living in Japan. We understand that the episodes get diffused across the world digitally within a matter of hours but the ability to see this on air TV is really something of importance because the episodes you're viewing on your PC sometimes are missing portions, are late, etc. We're obviously not going to disqualify anyone applying for not living in Japan as long as they have the Japanese language capabilities, but we would appreciate it if you tell us whether you live in Japan and if not, how you view the episodes (and around what time you do so.) This is related to the next part:

The candidate needs to be timely.

In general, Claudia's synopsis arrives in our e-mail box around 5am EST every Saturday. This is quite a while after the show airs in Japan, but not very long after it begins being diffused electronically. And make no mistake about it, it takes quite a while to write these synopses. At least 2-3 hours each week; and when you're racing against the clock to get it ready by Saturday afternoon EST, time will simply fly by. At the same time, we recognize that lenience is necessary. If you could get the synopsis to us by Saturday night or Sunday morning EST, that'd be best. Be sure to tell us, then, when you think you'd be able to have it prepared by. (If your synopsis would be out after the fansubs are out, meaning in turn that the translations were probably taken from them, we're not interested.)

The candidate needs to have good writing skills! Everyone makes mistakes, that's not a problem, but I'm not going to post a synopsis written without proper grammar, punctuation, capitalization, etc. Basic stuff.

If it hasn't been made obvious already, the candidate needs to have the free time to write these things. If you don't have the time, its really quite futile isn't it? Make sure to mention, then, that you've got no life and can do this.

Lastly, we want you to have a bit of zeal toward this. You're a big fan of the show, right? You don't need to recount for us every single Sailor Moon experience, but we would like to know if you're a fan well versed in the Sailor Moon mythos, or just a general fan of sentai.

So now its our turn to tell you why you should want to do this.

Apart from just general exposure to several thousand people each week and gratitude to the service you're doing for fandom, we can't definitively offer you anything in return. However, we recognize this kind of work takes dedication, and that dedication ought to be rewarded. We're not making any promises, but basically, knowing you're clearly a big fan of PGSM, we're usually apt to procure for you some of the show merchandise that has come out.

In addition, if you're someone looking to pad his or her resume and are interested in the translation, linguistic, or writing field, this may be an excellent opportunity for you to get resume building credit; in this regard the 2-3 hours spent each weekend translating and writing about your favourite show is nothing at all. If this particular point interests you, ask for more details in your submission.

Incidentally, we'll also let you plug whatever the heck you'd like in your update. If that makes you happy.

So with that said and done, if you're still willing at this point, send an e-mail to project@genvid.com We would especially like it if you could include a writing sample; preferably this week's (currently its the 10th episode) synopsis and if possibly by Sunday (Dec. 7th) at midnight.

A general checklist of things to write:

Do you live in Japan?
How is your fluency in Japanese?
How do you view the episodes?
When could you get a synopsis done by?
Do you have the time and dedication to get this done each week?
Are you a SM fan or a sentai fan?

And hopefully a sample.

Thank you for your interest!
