news update (manga re-releases translation)

Pointing!
Yeah! |
Last week I
briefly went
into the news of a manga re-release. This week I've got the whole
page
translated for you. And if you paid attention to our
forums,
you would have been able to read this a few days ago! For shame!
We're going to go through the translations of this page picture by
picture.
If you're interested in buying them from Amazon Japan, you can get the
first volume here
and the second volume here.
While most of Amazon Japan is written in Japanese, the Amazon allows you to
utilize the ordering pages in English. (FYI, even if you have an Amazon US
account, you will still need to create an Amazon JP account.) If you have
any question as to how to order, feel free to ask us in the forums.

Text
ahoy |
"Finally! All 12 volume of Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon are
beginning to be re-published! On September 22nd both volume one and volume
two will go on sale at the same time!! (And the plan is to release one
volume each month thereafter.)
Sailor Moon fans, it has been a very long wait. But the eternal masterpiece
that is "Bishoujo Senshi
Sailor Moon" is at last being refreshed and revived. It goes without saying
that there will be new covers, but there will also be new pages, and
Naoko Takeuchi has made revisions throughout those pages to make sure that the series
is updated for the 21st century."
Note the fact that when they say "all 12" (rather than "all
18" considering how many tankoubon the manga originally ran) they are
referring the fact that the 18 tankoubon are going to be compressed into 12
volumes this time around.
As for the revisions that Ms. Takeuchi is making, they do not mention what
kind. For all the article says, these revisions could simply be a couple of fixes in the
artwork. But, then again, there could be some major updating to the storyline.
I don't think
she'll go as far as to remove the Juuban Shopping district sign (considering
the sign isn't up anymore) but maybe changes in wording. We'll get into this
more at the bottom.

"Go"
is a favourite word of the Japanese it seems. Along with
"get." |
"And its all at the bargain price of 450 yen! Please go buy it the day
it comes out!" [Literally it says "Takeuchi Naoko is giving you a
giant 'service'" whereby the English term 'service' means bargain. 450
yen is very cheap, around $3.50, and Amazon JP is actually selling it for 429
yen.]

Good
things come in threes. |
First bubble: All pages have been looked over and retouched! [This may be
the 'updating for the 21st century' bit.]
Second bubble: Numerous colour pages!
Third bubble: Never-before-seen special stickers are included. [The Japanese
refer to stickers as 'seals.']

Can
you figure out what this says? |
"Sailor Mercury will be on the cover of volume #2" [There will be
12 volumes of the new manga, so the possibilities for the other covers are...]
|

|
|
Twice
as nice. (Yes, you want to kill me for the bad puns, but too bad.) |
Fourth bubble: Every cover is new and drawn by Takeuchi-sensei.
Fifth bubble: Every volume includes new pages! [It goes without saying that
these should be very interesting. I wonder if Ms. Takeuchi will update the
liner notes/stories that she used to write in the tankoubon? What will happen to the old ones
though..?]

I
bet you can read this one without problems. |
This last picture cut out is here because I want to bring up again the point I made
last time. It says here "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon." That's how
the live action series press translated "Bishoujo Senshi Sailor
Moon" as well. At the time the live action series was announced, we thought that they had
switched the name just for the new series. But if Kodansha is using
"Pretty Guardian" rather than "Pretty Soldier" too,
the name switch must have come from on high, meaning likely Ms. Takeuchi
herself. This is possibly one of the things she has 'updated for the 21st
century.' Expect there to be more such 'revisions.'
I don't know if anyone has brought this up, but with the new manga versions
coming out, what will happen with the original versions? They could become
important, particularly if the new versions leave out Takeuchi's previous
'journal notes' and such. When some manga, like Love Hina, had new colour
versions made, the old ones were still produced. But considering this is a
're-publication' rather than the addition of a colour line to the previous
B&W version, it may be timely to snap up the original
printings now if you don't have them.
Once again, from Amazon JP the first volume of the new version is here
and the second volume here.
