Update - Jay Navok

Live Action Sailor Moon update (Article translation)

A new article shot live on location about the live action series has surfaced. Its located here. Even though I'm incredibly tired I did a translation of the page. Its still a bit rough. Note that if you're quoting this translation somewhere, please be sure to mention where its from.

This is the only picture on the page. The caption is: Says actress Sawai Miyu, "Even though its hot in these long-sleeved winter clothes, I'm happy to be playing the part of Usagi."

Note the fact that she doesn't have a blonde wig on.

[Translation note: They use the Engrish phrase 'Crank in' in that article. What does this mean? According to this page its because, "Cameras used to be operated by pushing a crank-rod around, so, even today, when starting to shoot a movie, we say 'CRANK-IN'" Riiiiight.]

'Cranking in' today is star of the upcoming Sailor Moon live action series Sawai Miyu, who says of the main character Tsukino Usagi, "She and I are a lot alike. I'm going to try to become just like her!"

"In the name of the moon, I'll punish you!" goes the famous line of the smash hit "Pretty soldier sailor moon" which is now a new live action series set to debut on 10/4 at 7:30. Even amidst all the attention this show has garnered, it is still filming on location in the metropolitan area.

In this new live action version of the series the producers are trying to stress the untransformed lives of the senshi. They'd like their regular lives to be the focus rather than the scenes in which the senshi are fighting their enemies, and to this extent they will be depicting their lives as ordinary middle school students who fall in love and study for exams. The first day of shooting consisted of filming a scene where the protaganist Tsukino Usagi (Sailor Moon) goes to school and of filming the scene where she meets Mizuno Ami (Sailor Mercury.)

The temperatures this day were in the mid-thirties (Celsius) and filming (on location) were both Usagi's actress Sawai Miyu (15 years old) and Ami's actress Hama Chisaki (14 years old.) These girls were chosen among 1,000 others who auditioned. Sawai Miyu has appeared on the 30 minute drama "Kiss [something- sorry I'm too tired to figure it out]" which was her first time playing the main character. This is Hama Chisaki's first time being in a drama.

"Usagi! Please turn your face just a little more!"
"Sure! Sorry."

This is how supervisor Tasaki Ryuuta frantically directs Sawai Miyu, dressed in her winter school clothing. (In the middle of summer!)

Of the five pretty soldiers, Usagi is the character who is most naive. Sawai says, "I have wanted to play as Sailor Moon since I was a little girl and am delighted to have the opportunity to do so. I just love Usagi because she's a character who is so energetic and full of life. My friends have said to me, "You're such an ordinary girl, like Usagi" and I feel in my heart that the two of us have many qualities in which we are alike, so I am doing my best to become all the more like her." With those words and her smile, she lights everything around her. The staff and everyone else who has met her give a metaphorical seal of approval, noting, "We can't think of anyone other than Sawai Miyu as Usagi."

Switching subjects, "Ami" is another character on the show. She's a genius girl who has trouble making friends, but when she meets Usagi and begins to fight along side her, Ami starts to open her heart.

Unlike Ami, the girl playing her, Chisaki, is a cheerful girl who has an incredibly joyful ambience about her. "I figured I'd lose weight being filmed..." she says while eating some ice cream. [They literally say "while shoving delicious ice cream into her face." Good descriptive reporting there, guys.] But when she begins filming the scene where Ami meets Usagi, her voice changes completely. Her face looking downward, she becomes the frail-but-gentle-hearted Ami; her body and general 'feel' becoming entirely that of Ami's. "The nuances she displays are almost miraculous. Its hard to conceive of this being her first time acting," says the supervisor.

This is just the first day of filming, however. Soon, Hino Rei (Sailor Mars)'s actress Kitagawa Keiko, Kino Makoto (Sailor Jupiter)'s actress Azama Myuu, and Aino Minako (Sailor Venus)'s actress Komatsu Ayaka will all join the cast in turn.

And that's the end of the article.
