Live Action Sailor Moon update (Full Preview for Act 44)

Oh deary me I do declare it's a picture we've seen, why whatever shall we do?

The HICBC preview and now the completed Toei preview for Act 44.

Rei and Minako antagonize over their reactions of their previous life.

Rei asserts that Minako- having never awakened her senshi powers- has no qualifications to fight, but that's because she has something in her mind.

Meanwhile, coming to the conclusion that no matter how much she hopes it would happen, she'll never have Endymion's heart, Queen Beryl at last comes to the decision to take the Princess's life.

Toei top left:

Will Mamoru actually have to choose the Princess over protecting his own life? Zoisite pleads with Queen Beryl, who is unable to conceal her despair, to spare Mamoru. But Beryl has a demand in exchange for her mercy; Zoisite will have to take the Princess' life!

Toei top right box:

"No matter when, you can still laugh."

Just to say these few words, Mamoru broke his promise with Beryl and must pay up with his life.

Everyone in the dark kindom looks upon Mamoru's act with despair.  "This is the second time he's throwing his life away for the Princess. And furthermore, he's tossing away the planet!"

dun dun dunnnnnnn.

Box with Kunzite and the candles:

From the moment Usagi and Mamoru fell in love, the fate of the planet may have turned toward the same tragedy that has happened before, although they differ in form.

And the antagonism between Minako and Rei finally comes to a front...!

To fulfill their mission from their previous life, or possibly to free themselves from their previous existence, they all struggle for their lives. Where will these girls, and Mamoru, end up?

Doublemint youma twins box:

And Zoisite sends out a youma... and wait that's the first time since Act 10!

Speaking of youma, the Water youma's design from Act 43 apparently caused Supervisor Suzumura to go, "Th, this is!"

"Let's get Takaiwa san in this. He'll do a card slash!"

He and Act 41/42's Takemitsu supervisor got all riled up, but it looks like it was just the two of them.

Mercury makeup pics box:

"Drop-dead dripping wet Mercury"

The water-on-water battle between Sailor Mercury and that youma was supervisor Suzumura's idea. It seems he wanted to see the water senshi Mercury get spritzed with water one time. Wasn't it cute?

The supervisor's reasoning was, "If it's a water youma we can do a hydro bomb (an aquatic explosion) too!" Eh? Bombs again?!

Captions: "
Shouda from makeup politely sprays her with a bit of water."  "She seems pretty happy! It must be refreshing huh?"

Box with a lot of pics:

Act 43 was like an explosion storm. Of course what we mean by explosion is that thing Sawai-san experiences all the time. She's gotta be used to napalm by now right?

Sawai: "Aw heck no. But I've been through so much; napalm, cement, sparklers, colored powder..."

--And you've been through running through the explosion, too.

Sawai: "I've been through the hydro bomb too. Ah, but the kind of direct-impact stuff that Shirai-san (the guy in the water youma's suit) went through, uh I don't think I'm going to do that."

Where else can you find an actress who can say explosion terminology so smoothly?

Since I can't loose to Sawai-san, I present:

The Sailor Moon Explosion Lesson

Pic 1: The same thing you've seen before: Napalm. A beautiful column of flame. It's incredibly hot! It makes a big noise!
Major weakness: the limited number of locations you can film at, and the time it takes up

Pic 2: This is cement. Some fine powder goes flying, and so it seems like an explosion. Since it stays in the air, you can create a scene where someone can run through the explosion, but you've got to get the compound right and check on the wind direction; otherwise the actor may be covered all over with powder.

Pic 3: Sparklers. Snapping sparks fly out; it's a special kind of fireworks. Since it's very bright you can use it in both night and day shoots.

Pic 4: Colored powder. A type of cement that's been colored. Supervisor Suzumura wanted to use it so he persuaded operations, saying, "It's a water youma and we gotta make it blue!"

Pic 5: A hydro bomb. Not a hydrogen bomb; rather, an aquatic bomb. Act 43 was a real evening so when the days end we use backlights and it's incredibly pretty.

I've never thought that the day would ever come when we write a special "Various explosions" feature on (here) Sailor Moon('s page)... (LOL)

Last box:

Performing a "gunpowder effect", in Act 43 Makoto's Azama-san used what's called an "instant firing line." It's got a special kind of fuse line that runs through all the powder in an instant. The supervisor suggested that for this kind of flash image because "The power of computer graphics isn't reliable enough!" Even though the fuse lights faster than her hand, she says "I'm doing it!" and decides on a perfect pose. While she's still a far cry from Sawai-san's immense explosion expertise, Azama-san has been steadily gaining personal experience with these gunpowder effects.

Thanks kenji!!
