Live Action Update (Forty-Second Episode Synopsis)

"A rock? Your present is a damn rock? This birthday sucks. You suck."

t's synopsis time once again. Gather around everyone, and let's all give a round of applause to Hoshiko and Kenji for all the hard work they've put in to writing this synopsis of Act 42 of the live action series.

Act 42

In a rather dizzying manner, girl Luna gives us the recap of what's been going on. "An incident occurred where people all over town suddenly seemed as if they'd lost their souls. A lot of youma appeared, too, and on top of that, they became stronger." The strong youma attacks Sailor Moon and causes her to stumble backwards. Luna continues. "Usagi and Mako-chan let out the secret to Motoki and Naru. I've got to be careful, too, but an even more alarming situation has arisen." Princess Sailor Moon stand, sword outstretched. She deflects the youma's attacks, causing fire to blossom up around her. "Usagi! Stop it, Usagi!" cries Jupiter. Princess Sailor Moon launches her star-inscribed attack and everything behind the youma erupts into flame. "Stop it!" cries Usagi from within Princess Sailor Moon. She stops, leaving Usagi free to take her place. Surveying the destruction around them, Usagi is overcome with emotion. "This is...the power that will destroy the planet," she says mournfully.

Mamoru squints out a window in his Dark Kingdom room. "Usagi!" he whispers. "It seems Usagi used her power again, huh?" Mio points out behind him with a huge smile on her face. She leans against the mantle, resting her head on her hand. "Earth may really be destroyed," she says in that saccharine manner of hers, casually glancing at Mamoru over her shoulder. Mamoru turns. "I'll always believe in her," he says with a glare. Mio whirls. "If you stand up for her that much, you'll be in danger, too," she admonishes with glee. She looks up above the mantle and Mamoru follows her gaze. "That painting..." he says, subdued, "When did it appear...?" The peaceful looking painting hangs menacingly over the fireplace.

"Jadeite," begins Beryl. She holds up what looks like an obsidian arrowhead. "Place this in Endymion's body." She places the arrowhead into the upturned palms of Jadeite, who's kneeling before her. "Endymion's heart," she says, anger creeping into her voice, "if it just won't part from the Princess after all..." Jadeite looks up adoringly at her, but she pays it no mind. "Endymion...I take you from her...forever..."

Mamoru stares at the painting, stone-faced. Jupiter comfort Usagi, who is kneeling behind Naru staring at the fire and destruction around her.

Usagi sits at the table in the hideout, staring glumly off into space. "It's gotten serious, hasn't it," says girl Luna, pacing behind Usagi and the rest of the girls. "I think the reason people are becoming to be like lifeless shells is that Metalia's power is getting stronger and is influencing people's hearts, as well." Usagi and Rei turn to look at Luna. "People's hearts, as well, you say?" asks Rei. "In other words, due to an evil power, they've become empty," explains Luna. "That youma, too, I wonder if that's Metalia's influence," muses Makoto, "Its strength was insane." Usagi speaks up sadly, "By Metalia's influence, you mean the influence of the Illusionary Silver Crystal, right?" Feeling guilty, she glances briefly at the others. "It's because I couldn't stop it." Makoto is by her side in a flash. "We said it's not your fault, Usagi!" says Makoto, "It's because it's impossible to go against the Past!" "Makoto!" Rei says firmly. "We've got to go against it. If not, the planet will be destroyed." Usagi looks away, remembering how she injured Naru as Princess Sailor Moon.

"Naru, I'm sorry!" Usagi says at Naru's hospital bedside. "It's my fault that this happened." Naru lies back in the bed, her right arm bandaged from elbow to wrist. "You're really mean," she tells Usagi. Usagi's head sinks lower. "I'm sorry," she says. Naru turns her head towards Usagi. "For not saying anything to me," she says, "That you transform and fight like that, you didn't tell me at all." Usagi is taken aback. "More than an injury or anything, that's more of a shock," Naru pouts and turns away from Usagi. "That's," speaks up Usagi, "because it's natural...to keep it a secret..." Her voice trails off and she looks down, dejected. Naru turns towards Usagi and laughs. "What's that about?" she teases and laughs again, bringing a smile to Usagi's face. "But," she says, "it's not a secret anymore, so talk to me more."

Jadeite walks absently down a flight of stairs, thoughts full of the task Beryl has given him. "Place this in Endymion's body." He halts in his tracks and looks at the arrowhead in his hand. "Endymion's heart, no matter how many times he's separated from the Princess..."

Kunzite is in the forest practicing with his sword. Zoisite approaches him. "What is it?" asks Kunzite without missing a step. "Jadeite has attached himself to Beryl after all," Zoisite informs him. This causes Kunzite to stop. "It's because he's meek," he says, "Even a curse towards Beryl, he'll be taken by it with ease" He continues to slash about with his sword. "And you have no intention of freeing yourself from that curse?" asks Zoisite, stepping forward and knocking right on by Kunzite's shoulder, making him stop his practice again. "I can't protect Master by myself," he says. "Did you say my curse?" asks Kunzite. Zoisite turns to face Kunzite. "The one that makes you want revenge on Master and those who destroyed the planet, that curse-" "It's not a curse," interrupts Kunzite, "It's my will." He resumes his sword practice. "Then why?" asks Zoisite, "Why don't you take his life right now? Isn't it because the real you has awakened inside of you?" Kunzite turns and holds his sword up to Zoisite's throat.

Naru lies on her hospital bed. "Princess of the Moon, huh? That's an amazing story, isn't it!" she says to Usagi. "But it's true," Usagi says gravely. "I have to do my best or else the world will be destroyed." "I see," speaks up Naru, "Fate is being grasped by Usagi...How nerve-wracking!" Usagi looks like she's been kicked. "You can't retake this like a test." asks Naru. "That may be true," says Usagi, "but...but there's also times when I don't take a supplementary exam, and even until now, I've-" "I'm kidding! I'm kidding!" says Naru. "Usagi, when it's for yourself, it's hopeless, but when it's for other people, you really try with all of your heart." She smiles at Usagi comfortingly. "It'll be okay," she says, "I believe in you." "Naru," Usagi breathes gratefully.

Squeaky toys. What every normal 16 year old has in her bath.

With a large clock positioned so she can see the time, Usagi sits in her bath. A motorized duck and other toys float around in the water. she nods to herself. "I've got to give it another shot, and do my best. In order to not use the power of the Illusionary Silver Crystal, I've got to endure." Seven o'clock becomes eight o'clock and Usagi, looking slightly more flushed is still sitting in the hot bath, counting. "98...99...3,600 seconds. An hour," she sighs. Eight o'clock becomes nine o'clock and an even more flushed Usagi is still doing her best, despite seeming to wilt like a flower. Another hour passes, and at ten o'clock, Usagi's light-headed and barely keeping her head above water. Outside the door to the bath, Luna worries. "Usagi, it's been really long. Are you okay? Don't worry yourself too much, okay?" No response. "Usagi? Hey, I'm going to open the door a bit, okay." Somehow, Luna takes her plushie self and opens the door. She peers inside and her eyes pop wide like saucers. "Usagi! What's wrong? Usagi!" A very red-faced Usagi manages to mumble, "It's practice...to endure..." before she finally gives in to the heat and passes out, sinking under the water. Luna pops up at the side of the bath. "This is bad!" she cries out, "Usagi fell into the bath!" Shingo is standing at the door to the bath, staring in shock at Luna. Noticing this, Luna goes goggle-eyed again and dashes into hiding. Shingo tilts his head in disbelief. Luna, now in girl-form, pokes her head out from her hiding spot and nervously explains. "Um, I'm Usagi's friend, and..." She stops and looks down at herself in disbelief. "What am I doing?" She runs past Shingo into the hallway and pauses on her way up the stairs, her tail very obviously peeking out from beneath her skirt. She turns and suddenly tells Shingo, "I'll punish you!" complete with arm motions. Then, just as suddenly, she rushes up the stairs. Shingo stares a bit, then mimics the arm motion Luna did. "I'm going to pretend I didn't see that," he says, and walks away.

Ikuko places a bag of ice on the forehead of Usagi, who's now laying in bed. "Even though it's this hot, why did you stay in the bath for a long time?" asks Ikuko. "Oh! Could it be a diet?" "No!" protests Usagi. "Even if you do nothing," says Ikuko, "your beauty and proportions, your Mama will guarantee them, right?!" She slaps her hip and does a little shimmy across the room, causing Usagi to laugh. Ikuko scurries back to Usagi's bed and pats her on the cheeks. "Go to sleep like a good girl, " she says gently and leaves the room. "Good night!" Usagi calls after her, which is answered by Ikuko bidding "Good night!" As she leaves, Luna pads out from beneath Usagi's bed where she was hiding. "I was seen by Shingo," she laments, "What do I do?" Shingo is doing just what he said he'd do, and is playing video games, pretending he saw nothing.

The strong youma from before is prowling around in the city. It hops down to a street, where a pair of policemen are riding by on bikes. The first collapses and the second runs to his aid. "Hey! What's wrong?" he asks, shaking his colleague and slapping him on the face. "What's wrong? Hey!"

Motoki drops food down to Kamekichi. "Kamekichi!" he says, "Eat this, and it'll give you stamina! Kame Max!" He drops another pellet of Kame Max down to Kamekichi. "You're well today, aren't you?" he tells his pet, then with a pained look, turns around to Nephrite, who's on his knees, mopping the floor with none of his usual zest. "And he's not well!" With a sigh, Motoki kneels over next to Nephrite. "Nephkichi!" he calls, trying to rile Nephrite back into his usual humor (or lack thereof). With no response, Motoki tries again. "Nephrin!" he calls, waving his hands in front of Nephrite's face. "What's wrong with you?" he asks. "You're acting strangely!" Nephrite stands and Motoki does too. "Are you not feeling well?" he asks. "I've grown tired of my unsightliness," Nephrite responds soberly, "That's all." He starts to walk away, but just then Ami greets them. "Hello!" she says brightly. Motoki immediately bids her welcome, and Nephrite pauses and turns to look at her. Ami notices this and the smile fades from her face.

Ami walks into the hideout and with one look, is rushing down the stairs. "What are you doing?" she asks. There are heaters arranged around the room. Rei and Luna are literally cooling their heels in a bucket of water, eating shave ice and fanning themselves. Usagi is on the couch at the center of all the heaters and is bundled up in the thickest winter wear. "It's training to endure not using the power of the Illusionary Silver Crystal," explains Makoto, furiously fanning herself with two fans, green shave ice in the other hand. "Huh?" asks Ami, walking around behind Usagi. "Yesterday, too, she used the bath until she fainted from the heat," Rei says around a mouthful of shave ice. "And thanks to that, I had a hard time!" says Luna. Rei nods in agreement. "Then, I guess these are for training, too," Ami says and pulls out books from her bag. "Usagi asked me to bring these, difficult math problem sets and the hardest science." She holds the books out to Usagi, who takes them with her mitted hands. "Oh, thank you!" Usagi cries, "Can you loan them to me?" She starts to thumb through one of the books and Ami goes up behind Rei and Luna. "I wonder if it will work," she whispers to them. Rei mutters, "I've wondered how it would go, but..." "She said it's better than not doing anything," Luna tells them. "...way of thinking," Usagi reads out loud, sounding distressed, "Um, the problem of mixing saline solution..." "Usagi's trying with all her strength," says Makoto, standing to unwrap a furoshiki covered bundle. "Usagi! I've brought the sautéed lettuce." She describes the contents of each of the three containers. "Ketchup flavor, and curry flavor, and simple pepper flavor." Usagi makes a sound of disgust, the book dropping from her hands. "I hate those!" she says, "But, thank you!" She stands, smiling, but suddenly becomes dizzy and faints. "Usagi!" the girls cry.

With Usagi out of her winter clothes and able to sit up straight again, the lettuce is arranged in front of her. She picks up some of the ketchup lettuce. "Here I go!" she says and takes a bite. Immediately, she wrinkles her face in disgust and lets out a moan. The girls are all around her, fanning her to cool her off. "Lettuce is definitely best raw," Usagi mumbles through her moans. "You can do it, Usagi!" cheers Luna, "Do your best! Fight!" Usagi nods and moans, "I'll do my best!" She takes another bite of lettuce and forces it down in a visible effort. "Usagi," Makoto says. "Usagi," echoes Ami, "Do your best!" "If it's you, you can suppress your power!" encourages Rei. "Definitely!" urges Makoto. Luna hops around to behind Usagi, cheering her on. "Usagi! Fight! Usagi! You can do it! Usagi! You can do it!" She drums a rhythm on her fan, which is quickly taken up by the others. Usagi looks at them, a strange mix of gratitude and despair on her face.

"Usagi," whispers Mamoru, still staring out that same window, "just until I do something about Metalia, please suppress your power! If it's you, you can do it!" The door behind him opens and Jadeite steps inside, the arrowhead held menacingly in his hand. Suddenly, a piano starts to play and Jadeite clutches his head with his other hand. He ducks out of the doorway. "Jadeite," Zoisite says as he plays, "Remember! Long ago, the days when we were alongside Master." Jadeite staggers out into the hall and grips a window for support. He squints in concentration and suddenly remembers.

Jadeite and Nephrite challenge each other to an arm wrestling match. "Don't lose, Jadeite! Go!" says Kunzite. With a cry, Nephrite wins and he leaps up in triumph. "Shit!" swears Jadeite. Next, Nephrite challenges Endymion. It looks like Nephrite has a slight lead, but suddenly, Endymion wins in a burst of strength. "Well done!" says Zoisite. Jadeite applauds and looks at Endymion with a fawning look. Endymion rises and smiles at Jadeite.

Suddenly the music stops, and Jadeite looks around. In his room, Zoisite sits with his hands frozen over the keys, twitching with the desire to move. "Stop it!" Beryl's voice is heard telling him, "Don't interfere, Zoisite!" His eyes glaze over and shut, and he falls from the piano bench. Jadeite makes his way back to Mamoru's room. "Master," he says. Mamoru turns, "Jadeite? Is something wrong?" Jadeite holds up the arrowhead and places it against Mamoru's chest. Mamoru's eye bulge and he falls to his knees, grunting in pain. "No matter how it was in the Past," Jadeite says, "now, my master is Queen Beryl alone." Mamoru manages to look up at him through his pain, but then quickly resumes his grunts of anguish. Up above the fireplace, a spot on the painting starts to glow white.

In Metalia's chambers, Beryl holds her hands in front of her chest, as if trying to trap something. She stares down in concentration.

EXPLODE!!

Usagi and Ami walk together with Luna poking out of Usagi's purse. "Ami, your coming to visit her will make Naru happy, too!" Usagi says. Ami smiles. "Wait!" cries Luna, "There's a youma's presence!" The girls run and see people collapsed in front of the hospital. "Naru!" Usagi gasps. They run through the hospital, where more people are collapsed and make their way to Naru's room. "Naru!" Usagi rushes to her side and gently shakes her. "Hang in there, Naru! Naru!" There's no response from Naru. Luna leaps from Usagi's bag and lands in her girl form. She runs over to Usagi's side. "Usagi!" she says, "The youma is in back of the hospital!" Usagi nods and looks down at Naru, remembering what she said to her the other day. "It'll be okay! I believe in you." "Naru!" Usagi says fiercely, "I'll do my best!"

The girls run outside and find the youma. It turns and leaps over to the other side of them. "Ami, Luna," says Usagi, "This youma is strong. Be careful!" The two nod and Usagi steps forward. "Moon Prism Power!" "Mercury Power!" "Luna Prism Power!" Together, they cry, "Make Up!" and transform. They ready themselves and charge the youma, who tries to slash at them without success. Sailor Moon nods to Mercury, who takes out her tambourine. Moon holds her Moonlight Stick up and the two leap in the air towards each other. As they cross, they both attack the youma, but the attacks have no effect. Instead, the youma thrusts its sword into the ground and two crystal-like things grow out of either side of its head. It roars a challenge. "No way!" says Sailor Moon. The youma jumps over them and attacks. The girls fall to the ground with shrieks. Mercury clutches her left forearm, which is burned through to the skin. "Ami! Luna!" cries Sailor Moon, seeing her friends hurt. She tries to rush towards them, but stops, turning towards the youma that's now threatening her with its sword. She grips both hands to her brooch. "Calm down," she tells herself, "I can't use its power!" The youma draws nearer.

"Calm down," Sailor Moon tells herself, hands to her chest "I can't use its power!" The youma attacks again and Sailor Moon's brooch starts to glow. Desperately, she focuses on calming herself down while the youma crouches, ready to attack. It rises and rushing in to shield Sailor Moon from the attack is Mamoru. He blocks with his sword and sends the attack back at the youma, which goes flying into a fence. Sailor Moon looks up, startled, but keeps her grip on her brooch. Mamoru steps before her. "Keep it up!" he says, "Restrain your power." She nods and looks down. Mercury looks on, a hint of a smile on her face. Mio suddenly appears behind Mamoru. "Mamoru," she says. He turns to her, wide-eyed. "I should have taught you what would happen if you got near Usagi," she says walking up to him. "Okay?" Sailor Moon looks between the two of them, with something akin to heartbreak.

"Is that right?" asks Beryl angrily, "Endymion, if it's for the Princess' sake, isn't your life unnecessary?" She stares off to the side, and Jadeite, kneeling before her, follows her gaze. Dark energy gathers in front of her chest, and with a wave of her hands, Beryl sends it forth.

Mamoru turns in shock and the energy hits him in the chest. "Mamoru!" cries Sailor Moon. "It's okay!" he says through grunts, "Don't be careless!" Moon looks at him, visibly pained. When he falls to his knees, she makes to go towards him, but is stopped by Mio's outstretched arm. "Usagi," she says, "You see, about Mamoru, a stone that sucks away life has been implanted into him. The more he thinks of you, Usagi, the more his life will be absorbed. If Mamoru dies, it's your fault, Usagi." Sailor Moon looks in concern at Mamoru, who's still on his knees, in pain. Mio looks at her with a silent laugh, and with a wave of her hand, she teleports Mamoru away with her. Sailor Moon stares at the spot where Mamoru was a moment ago. "Mamoru..." she whispers. Mercury and Sailor Luna look on in concern. Sailor Moon starts to run forward, calling Mamoru's name as if she were looking for him. The youma attacks. "Usagi!" cries Mercury. An explosion erupts at Sailor Moon's feet, and when the smoke clears, Princess Sailor Moon is there, sword out and ready for destruction. "Endymion," she says. Her sword power up with bolts of blue energy and she counters the youma's sword attacks effortlessly. The youma stumbles back and Princess Sailor Moon raises her sword. "Usagi! You can't!" cries Sailor Luna. Princess Sailor Moon doesn't move. She simply stands with her sword outstretched. Behind the fence, flowers that were alive a few minutes ago are withered and black.

A cry floats through the air and an ominous presence lurks throughout the city. All around, people fall unconscious in the streets and in buildings. At Crown, Nephrite stands up straight with a start. He clenches his fingers and raises his hand. "This power..." he says, staring at his hand.

The youma attacks, and while Princess Sailor Moon is untouched, Sailors Mercury and Luna behind her cry out. Mercury falls to the ground. "Ami!" cries Luna. Princess Sailor Moon glances over her shoulder and with a glance back at the youma, brings her sword up in front of her face. Waving it around, she changes it back into the Princess Harp and plays it, casually sitting in the air. Sailor Luna looks up at her. Mercury also looks at her in confusion. Standing, she notices, "My injury is healed!" Luna takes a closer look. "It's true!" she says. They both look up at Princess Sailor Moon, who's descending. Behind the fence, the flowers are restored to life.

Feet firmly on the ground, Princess Sailor Moon stands with sword back in hand. "Mercury," she says, "Luna." She looks firmly at the youma, who growls. Princess Sailor Moon makes the star shield again and the cries can be heard again. "Usagi!" cries Mercury. The shield expands forward and spins.

"You can't!" cries Usagi.

Princess Sailor Moon hesitates and the shield goes flying back towards her with an explosion.

"Why don't you understand?" asks Usagi, exasperated, "If you use its power, this planet and its people will be hurt!" She stands before Princess Sailor Moon, who lounges on a stool in the newly renovated corners of Usagi's mind. "Where is Endymion?" Princess Sailor Moon asks. "Even Mamoru said to stop its power!" "Where is Endymion?" Usagi is taken aback. "Why are you so...?" "To me, there is only Endymion," Princess Sailor Moon says, "The only one who saw me, not as the Princess, but as myself, was Endymion. A world without Endymion is unnecessary." "How lonely," Usagi says. Princess Sailor Moon looks at her. "But, you can't!" insists Usagi, "I definitely will not destroy this planet, because there are lots of things that are precious to me!" Usagi thinks of Naru. "It'll be okay! I believe in you." She thinks of her mother, welcoming her home, and of pestering Shingo. She remembers laughing and eating cake with Minako, of walking with Makoto, Rei, and Ami, with Luna tucked under her arm, and of the four of them cheering her on while trying to eat the lettuce. "And yet," says Princess Sailor Moon, "someday, surely...you, too, for Endymion's sake...." They share a sorrowful glance, and then Princess Sailor Moon fades away. Usagi looks at the empty chair, her lips tightening.

Sailor Luna and Mercury lower their eyes as the light fades. "Usagi!" Mercury cries happily, running up to where Sailor Moon now stands. Moon turns and smiles. "Ami! Luna! Let's attack together!" Mercury and Luna nod with smiles. The youma raises its arms as if taunting them. "Luna Sucré Candy!" "Mercury Aqua Storm!" "Moon Twilight Flash!" The youma slams its sword down into the oncoming attacks, dispersing them, and then leaps away. The three senshi look stunned. "Usagi!" calls Luna. Moon turns to face Luna, who prances in front of her. "You were able to suppress your power well!" "The training had results, didn't it!" chimes in Mercury. "I'm not so sure," Moon says, "but if we fight as we normally do, we won't be able defeat that youma, will we?" She brings a hand up to clutch her brooch. "Without the power of the Illusionary Silver Crystal..." "It's a necessary power," Luna tells her, "That's why it exists." "Someday, the time to use it again will come...is that what you mean?" Mercury says. "I don't know," admits Luna. "But until then, I won't use it," says Sailor Moon, "Absolutely not!" Worried, she thinks to herself, "Mamoru!"

Mamoru stumbles in his room, one hand supporting himself against a table, the other clutching at his chest. He plops himself into a chair and groans. The white spot on the painting grows bigger. The moon cycle closes as Mamoru sits, clutching his chest and gasping in pain.

Act 43 Preview:

Usagi rides behind Mamoru on his motorcycle. "Usagi," Mamoru says, "Listen well." Sailor Moon fights ferociously against a youma. Mercury looks on, looking delighted. "The one who's been strengthening Metalia's power is not the Princess..." Mamoru in his armor and Sailor Moon stand on a beach facing the ocean. Mamoru turns to look at Sailor Moon. "...it's you." Mamoru and Usagi sit together on a beach at night.

In her pajamas, Usagi sits up on her bed at night. She has the Moon Phase watch in hand. "How cruel..." she says.

Over already? Man oh man. Very many Arigatous to Hoshiko and Kenji!! Let's not forget Mr. Roboto as well!
