Stu Levy article
Remember TokyoPop's Stu Levy? Sure, we all try not to.
The "Japan Economic Foundation," which is some front or another
for one of the government ministries, publishes a periodical. It's a magazine
published in English aimed at business people involved in Japan. One of the
articles this month was an interesting interview with the pres of TokyoPop, our
very own Stu Levy. He sheds some fascinating light on the struggles they had
early on trying to get bookstores to carry their stuff, but of more pertinence
to us, basically credits Sailor Moon as the reason Barnes and Nobles and
other retailers carry manga today-- the entire source of the American manga
boom.
Three pages, click the thumbnail to read.
Isn't it amusing how obviously it's been translated from
Japanese to English? The best part is they don't seem to have used Levy's
original English quotes, instead translating them back into English from the
Japanese.
