Live Action Update (Thirty-fourth Episode Synopsis)

Fact: if you keep watching Luna, eventually something useful pops out of her ass.

Screen captures thanks to Serecindra with hosting credit Bill Heineman

Time for the thirty-fourth episode synopsis. A HUGE, MEGA, ULTRA, SUPER, GIGANTIC THANK YOU!! to Hoshiko and Kenji this week for preparing this synopsis of Act 34 of the live action series! woooo!

Act 34

A set of red curtains opens up and girl Luna gives us the low-down on what's been going on. "We've got a bit of a serious situation," she explains and then gets shoved into a cat shaped balloon as we see a clip of Mizuno Saeko talking to Ami. Luna continues, "Ami's transfer of schools and Rei's fight with her Papa." Rei's father slaps Rei and screams, "Don't you selfishly make Mama out to be miserable! What do you understand?!" Rei cries. "Usagi and the others, and me too," says Luna, "we're all worried, but..." Ami walks off by herself, looking glum, and Rei stands before the grave of her mother, "Risa Hino 1963~1995." She remembers when her mother passed away. Risa's hand hangs limply over the side of the hospital bed and little Rei's voice can be heard yelling, "Mama! Mama!" She starts to sob and cries out some more, "Mama! Mama!" The memory fades and Rei starts to cry as the church bell tolls.

Rei is in her room, frantically packing things into a big duffle bag. She glances around the room and then looks at the picture of her on the swing with her mother standing behind her. She picks it up and looks at it.

"If the youma is targeting Rei," Usagi speaks up, "why is that?" She's talking with Makoto and plushie Luna in the hideout. Luna explains, "When the youma first appeared, Rei said 'I fought the youma by myself' didn't she?" We get to see clips of the cool fight. "It's may be because of that." "The youma wants revenge, you mean?" asks Makoto. "Then, Rei's in danger!" exclaims Usagi. "We'll guard her," declares Makoto, making a determined fist, "Rei, right now, she's got a lot to deal with with her father. If we tell her, she'll hate it, so we'll have to guard her indirectly." Usagi agrees. "On top of that," adds Luna, "I'm worried about being unable to contact Ami. It's good if she's gone with her mother to the interview, but..." "She said she didn't want to transfer," points out Makoto. "It couldn't be...she's run away from home?" asks Luna. "Possibly," says Makoto. "No way!" Usagi jumps to her feet. "I'm going to go check if Ami's returned or not. Mako-chan, please take care of Rei. I'll get back to you right away."

As Makoto responds, "I understand," the door is heard opening, and Rei comes storming in with her bag. She pauses at the stairs, seeing the others there. "Rei!" exclaims Usagi. Rei pauses for a second and then marches down the stairs. "What's wrong?" asks Makoto. "I thought I'd stay here for a little while," she replies. "What?!" cries Usagi. "What is it?" asks Makoto, "Is it about your father?" "He's so stubborn!" Rei says heatedly as she plops herself down on the couch, "He's waiting in front of the shrine again." She looks annoyed. Usagi and Makoto exchange a knowing glance and Usagi slips out of the hideout. Makoto approaches Rei and asks, "If you're going to be here, what are you going to eat?" Rei thinks for a second, "Ummm, later I'll go and buy something." "Then, I'll make something and bring it for you," Makoto offers. "It's okay," insists Rei, but Makoto just says with a smile, "In any case, I've got free time."

----

"Jadeite," calls Beryl. She stands in her chambers, back towards Jadeite who's bowing on one knee. "About that which is following the Princess, more than the Princess, there is first a man I want to have targetted." "Do you mean Endymion?" asks Jadeite hesitantly, turning his eyes up to her. Beryl pivots to face Jadeite, not pleased. "You should look only at me," she commands, "Don't think about unnecessary things."

----

Mamoru walks into his apartment, helmet in hand, and sits on the foot of his bed. Chopin's Fantasie Impromptu starts to play and he stands up, looking around his apartment. "Zoisite?" he asks. Behind him, Zoisite kneels, right fist to the ground. His snaps his gaze up at Mamoru and starts to stand. "Master, it's splendid that you've decided to fight. However, that Princess..." Mamoru cuts in, "About Usagi, whatever you say, it won't work." He turns to face Zoisite. "More than that, I want to know more about the Past. Everything about what happened." Zoisite tilts his head slightly and says, "The door to your memories should be opened already. For what's left, we need time." "Time..." repeats Mamoru. Zoisite steps forward and the music comes to a halt. "Master," he warns, "keep an eye out. Queen Beryl may have set up something." With that, he takes a step back and with a flourish of his cape, leaves. Mamoru stares.

Makoto sets down a huge furoshiki-wrapped bento with a smile. "Isn't it a bit too big?" asks Rei incredulously. "Nah, it's fine," says Makoto, "Well, I'm going to go home." Rei stares at Makoto, looking a bit shocked. "It's better that way, isn't it?" says Makoto and heads for the door. "Makoto!" calls out Rei. Makoto turns. "Thank you," Rei says almost hesitantly. Makoto smiles brightly and tells her, "You're welcome!" Rei smiles as she watches Makoto go and then paces over to the table and leans on the green chair.

Behind the counter, Motoki is wrapping the muffler he got from Makoto around a turtle stuffed animal. Makoto steps up, but he doesn't notice until she asks, "Motoki." Quickly, he scrambles to try and hide the turtle, leaning on it. "Um, can I borrow one room?" asks Makoto. "What?" Motoki glances at the clock. "But, for a intermediate student, it's already too late," he says. "I've got my reasons," she says, "I'm not going to play around." Motoki hesitates a bit more, but says, "Then, oh, that's it. If it's the staff room, it's okay." Makoto smiles. "Thank you." Motoki nods and smiles back.

----

Rei's sitting at the table with her head resting on one of her arms. She fiddles with a couple of origami cranes she's made, a green one and a red one. She pushes the red one over and sighs with boredom when the quiet "click" of the door opening can be heard. She looks up to see Ami enter. Ami's walking with her eyes to the floor and doesn't even notice Rei is there until she says, "Ami." Ami looks up. "Rei. You're here." She hesitates and then walks down the stairs and up to Rei. "Is it okay if I stay, too?" "It's okay," says Rei, "but what happened?" Ami sits down next to her. "I didn't go to the interview," she explains. Rei looks shocked. "I didn't say anything to Mama, either," continues Ami, "I don't know if you can believe me, Rei, but I've never fought with Mama until now, and I've never opposed her. I love Mama, and if I did my best and made her happy, I was happy. That's why, now, I don't know how I can talk with Mama. I wonder if she's mad. I wonder if she hates me..." Rei looks at Ami and tells her, "Wanting to talk with her like that, I think it's great of you." Ami is taken aback, "Huh? But it's because you did that..." Rei averts her eyes. "Me...probably, I'm just letting out my anger." Both girls fall silent until Rei suggests cheerfully, "Oh yeah, Makoto made a bento for me. Shall we eat it?" Ami smiles and asks excitedly, "Huh? Mako-chan did?" The two of them open the bento box to find layers of expertly assorted food. "Wow!" exclaims Ami, "It looks good!" Rei comments, "No one can compare with Makoto in this type of thing." "Rei, it's just the two of us," Ami says, "Shall we have a party?" Rei looks surprised, perhaps even a little afraid, and her voice seems to almost squeak as she exclaims, "Huh?!" Ami just smiles brightly.

----

Ami's mother sits at the table in their living room, staring worriedly at her phone. There's a message sent to her from Ami, who's voice we can hear reading it, "Please don't worry. I'm just going to think things over a little and then I'll come home." Saeko closes her phone and looks at the blank message board in the kitchen. In her mind, she remembers Ami when she was young, standing on a stool to write on the board, "To Mama, Ami will do her best, too, and become a doctor." The memory fades and Saeko stands, worried.

----

Rei and Ami stand back to back on the stage in the hideout. "Let's go," says Rei, "Ready..." "Go!" says Ami. The two turn, phones outstreched and facing each other, and then push the buttons making the other transform into the outfit they have on their phone. Rei ends up in a girly pink dress, her hair done in soft curls. Ami is in a pair of black capris, an off the shoulder grey sweater over a spaghetti-strapped black tank top. Her hair is up in a spikey ponytail. The two look at themselves for a second, and then each other and start to clap. "Wow! It suits you!" says Ami. The two girls exchange smiles and step closer together. Ami asks "Shall we do it?" and Rei nods.

Stop running in front of my car.

Rei changes into a blue dress and curtsies. Ami poses in a red two piece outfit, rose in hand. Rei has a jersey-type tank top on over a white skirt, two big pompoms in hand. In the same outfit, she fans herself with a pink feathery fan while draped with tinsel and laughs. Ami poses in a bright orange top and white skirt. She tosses a ball around. Rei has a sexy black businessy outfit on, hair pulled back, and glasses on her face. She taps her armful with a pointer and then throws a handful of silly string. Ami gets up from kneeling, dressed in a nun's habit, then she pulls out a sword and holds it out. Rei poses in a stewardess' outfit. Ami holds out a gun, wearing a dorky cowboy outfit. Still dressed like a cowboy, she hops on the back of an inflatable shamu with a big plastic hammer. The two girls pose back to back, Rei takes a swing in her baseball uniform, and Ami does some punches in her karate gi. They both pretend to gaze at a ball struck by Rei's bat and give each other high-fives. "Yay!" They toss a balloon between them. Ami spikes it at Rei, yelling "Attack!" and then getting dazed as Rei returns it and it bounces off of her. Rei poses in a full-body leopard costume, roaring. Ami claps, "How cute!" When Ami takes her turn in an elephant costume, though, Rei just laughs at her. So, Ami takes her revenge by happily shooting cans of silly string at Rei. Rei runs and starts to hit back with a pillow, feathers flying everywhere. Ami grabs another pillow and the two girls create a blizzard of feathers with their pillow fight. Laughing, they collapse to the couch as feathers fall on them.

----

Riding in his fancy black car, Rei's father slides a picture from his wallet. It's the same picture of Rei with her mother that Rei has in her room. Slowly, he slides it out a bit more to reveal that there's more to the picture. He's in it, too, standing awkwardly to the side. He sighs.

Lots of pictures of Ami and the rest of the girls are arranged in various frames. One with the four girls is grabbed by Ami's mother, who looks at it for a moment and then smiles. Later, she's sitting on Ami's bed, looking at the pages in a photo album. The pictures are of Ami when she was young. There's a page labeled "Picnic." Another with "Math Competition Champion," with a picture that says, "Good luck at the next competition!" On another page, a picture with Ami and her mother looking happily at each other is labeled, "Precious, precious time with Ami." On another page, just at the top you can read the label that says, "She loves the Merry-Go-Round" and below that, there's a picture of little Ami, smiling and waving to the camera with angel wings on her back. "Our own angel, Ami." The camera zooms up close at the wings on her back and then we see a feather fall on Ami's head as she sleeps against Rei in the hideout. The two are collapsed on the couch, feathers everywhere.

In the staff room at Crown, Makoto's on the phone. "Yeah, Ami came here, too, so don't worry. Usagi, you can stay at home." Her back is towards the door, so she can't see Motoki as he sneaks in and leaves a tray of food for Makoto. He shuts the door quietly as she finishes up the conversation. "Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I got it. Bye."

Somewhere, a field full of red flowers waves in the wind.

The next day, Ami and Rei are walking together. Rei stretches and the two laugh. They pause and turn to each other the way they did the last episode. "See you!" Rei waves. "Yup!" nods Ami and they turn and go their separate ways.

Rei is walking along, when suddenly a black car comes to a screeching halt right in her path. Nishizaki runs out. "Miss, please forgive me, but..." Three other black-suited men run out of the car and stand behind him. "I was reluctant, but it was your father's order." Rei raises her head. "I'll meet him," she says, "However, it won't be at a restaurant, but at the church."

Ami is walking on her way when she pauses. There's an amusement park next to her. She looks at it, and continues walking.

Rei's in the black car with Nishizaki and the other men. "It seems your father is already on his way," Nishizaki says, "Whew! I'm saved! I won't be fired. Thank goodness! Thank goodness!" "I'm only going to talk," says Rei. Nishizaki's spirits aren't dampened, though. "That's enough," he says, "Your father just wanted an excuse to meet with you." He turns and says over his shoulder, "Just between us, I think he's wanted to somehow speak with you, Miss, so he's thought about a lot of things. Such as a public opinion poll or a magazine interview." As Rei listens, her eyes get wider and wider. "That's why, when the call from the police came, I could see that he was rather happy." His voice fades out as Rei thinks to herself, "That's...then why?" She remembers the scene at the hospital again, crying as she looked at her mother lying still in the hospital bed.

Suddenly, Rei gives a start, sensing something. She looks out the window as the car passes by a bunch of waving flowers.

----

Makoto wakes, opening her eyes slowly. Quickly, she jerks up and looks around, taking in her surroundings. The empty plates from the food Motoki left are sitting on a table in front of her. She scrambles to her feet.

(rabbit)

Usagi's phone rings. She wakes, sitting straight up in bed and looking around. Finally, she looks down at the phone already clutched in her hands and answers it. "Usagi!" shouts Makoto's voice, startling Usagi.

----

At the church graveyard, Rei's father kneels in front of his wife's grave, the picture from his wallet in his hands. Rei walks up as the bell tolls and she notices the picture in his hands with surprise. Finally noticing her, Rei's father tucks the picture into his coat and stands. "What do you want?" he asks, "Calling me out to a place like this. If you wanted to meet, there are more proper places to meet at." Rei just looks at him, her gaze approaching a glare. "What is it?" he asks. Rei hesitates.

The flowers near the graves start to shake and shine. With a glow, the youma appears from the flowers. Rei notices and glances towards the flowers, but seeing nothing, ignores it for the time being. In the grove of trees, the youma is thrown to the ground. Sailors Moon and Jupiter run up behind it. "They went through a lot to talk with each other," Moon says, "Don't interfere!" "If it's revenge you want," says Jupiter, "we'll take it." They both pose and then run towards the youma.

Rei still stands, squared off against her father. "Why?" she asks, "Why, on that day, did you not come to the hospital?" A memory of the hospital flashes, with little Rei sobbing. Her father shakes his head a bit. "Stubborn, aren't you," he comments, "If there's some kind of reason, can you forgive me?" Rei thinks for a second and then says, "It depends on the reason." He takes a breath and then says, "It was work. I was really busy. It's also the reason I had to leave you with the temple. There is no other reason." Rei starts to tear up and begins, "Then..." He cuts her off, though, "I'm not telling you to understand." They both exchange awkward glances and then look at Risa's headstone. Rei fights back her tears and turns to walk off. "Rei," her father calls after her, causing her to stop in her tracks. "There's an interview. Where we'll eat as father and daughter. Attend." Rei relives the memory of turning from her mother's hospital bed to look around, calling, "Papa! Papa! Papa!" Rei turns to face him. "Perhaps," she says hesitantly, "if a little more time passes..." Her father tries to keep his face calm and replies, "I see." As she turns to go, Rei gives a little smile.

----

Sailor Moon isn't doing so well against the youma, which has her by the shoulders and flings her aside to attack Sailor Jupiter with a storm of flower petals.

BOOYAH

At the amusement park, Ami stands looking at the merry-go-round. As she stares at the horses going around, she remembers riding it when she was young. The angel wings on her back, little Ami waves and calls out "Mama!" Ami says to herself outloud, "I can tell her properly this time." She nods and then starts to leave, but stops. Her mother is right there, walking towards her with a relieved smile on her face. "Mama..." Ami stands in shock as her mother walks closer. "Thank goodness Mama could find you," Saeko breathes. "Why are you here?" asks Ami. "I remembered while looking at old photos," she says, glancing at the merry-go-round, "You liked it here, didn't you. Those days, your Papa was still together with us." Ami looks down and her phone rings then. She answers it right away. Luna's voice is heard urging, "Ami, please hurry! Usagi and the others are in a tough fight!" Slowly, Ami lowers the phone and hangs up. She looks up and says, "Mama, I'm sorry. Now, there's something I want to do even more than studying, something with my friends. Even if you hate me." Her mother smile sadly and moves closer to Ami. Ami looks uneasy, unsure of what her mother's going to do. Saeko pauses and then wraps her arms around Ami for a hug. "Come home safely," she whispers. Ami holds back her tears and when her mother releases her, she smiles and nods. Saeko watches with a smile as Ami runs off and then reaches into her purse to pull out a picture. It's Ami when she was young, wings on her back, riding the merry-go-round.

----

Sailor Moon and Sailor Jupiter cry out as they're both tossed through the air and end up rolling into each other on the ground. The youma approaches threateningly and raises a hand to attack. The two brace themselves, but a voice stops the youma. "Hold it right there!" It's Sailor Mars. She points at the youma. "I'll punish you!" she shouts. "Youma!" Comes another voice. The youma turns to face Sailor Mercury. She beckons, "Over here." Sailors Moon and Jupiter push themselves up. "Ami! Rei!" cries Moon. Mars commands, "Usagi, Makoto. Attack at the same time." The two nod and get up and all four girls surround the youma, boxing it in. Mars, Jupiter, and Mercury, start their powered-up attacks, and Sailor Moon uses her moonlight stick. They all attack at the same time. The youma has nowhere to run and is destroyed.

"We did it!" cries Sailor Moon happily. Mars and Mercury exchange a glance. "You two," asks Jupiter, "is everything all right now?" Mars smiles, "It's fine." "Sorry for making you worry," apologizes Mercury. "And the transfer?" asks Sailor Moon worriedly. "I'm not going to," Mercury says with a smile, "We'll be together for a loong time!" "Thank goodness!" Sailor Moon says, then hesitantly, she says, "Then, let's go." She turns around. "Everyone, let's do our best!" She jumps up and throws her fist into the air, "Yeah!" The others finally join her this time. "You did it!" she cheers, "Thank you!" They all laugh and hug.

----

In the morning, Ami's walking with her mother, who has a suitcase with her. "I'll see you later," Saeko says, "I probably won't come home for 2 or 3 days." "I understand," says Ami, "Come home safely!" Her mother nods and they both start to walk away. After a few steps, though, Ami turns around and calls out, "Mama!" Her mother stops and turns. "When what I'm doing now is over, I think I'll still aim to become a doctor," Ami says. Her mother smiles at her. "If you've decided it yourself, it'll be fine!" she says, "Come home safely." Ami nods, "I'll be back!" she says and runs off to school happily as her mother watches her go.

In her room, Rei tugs the knot on her sash. Examining herself in the mirror, she straightens the collar of her miko garb and looks at herself. Giving her uniform a few sharp brushes, she nods to herself, "Okay!" With one last look at her desk, she smiles and walks out. On her desk is the picture of her and her mother, but now, she's revealed the rest of the picture to show her father standing there.

O crap.

Mamoru rides on his motorcycle. He's zooming along when a girl steps into the road in front of him and collapses. He brings his bike to a frantic, screeching halt and runs to check on the girl, taking off his helmet. "Hey, are you okay?" he asks. He shakes the girl, revealing her face. It's Mio. "Hey! Hey! Hang in there!" he urges. "Hey!" Mio doesn't stir.

Act 35 Preview:

Minako lies in a hospital bed, saying, "So that the Past won't be repeated."

Zoisite holds a knife to Sailor Venus' neck. "Don't come near our master," he says. Artemis looks on at the two while Venus retorts, "Tell your master. 'Don't come near the Princess.'"

Minako grabs hold of a dazed looking Usagi from the side. Usagi plows forward, muttering, "I've got to go...save..." Minako looks shocked.

Mio is talking with Mamoru in a part, begging him, "Please!" She throws herself on him. "Hey!" he protests, eyes darting awkardly around.

Zoisite talks with Sailor Venus. "There's something I want to talk about," he says.

End. As always, another big thank you to Hoshiko and Kenji!
