Your Warriors of Legend Midnight Helping

Have you ordered Warriors of Legend yet? If not, what are you waiting for? (Frequent plugging makes the world go round, you know.)

Let me get into a few specifics about the book that I don't think we've mentioned here yet. It's 148 pages and they're literally packed; when I received the book I was a bit shocked at how there's hardly a margin. Which, to me, is a good thing- you're getting a lot of bang for your buck. We kept the page count intentionally low to keep the price of the book down- if it was under 150 pages then the price was only $12.99. One of the things we learned quickly with Warriors of Legend is that page count is everything in the publishing industry, namely, keeping the page count low. I'll be talking in later updates about our experiences with some of the big-boy publishers and let me tell you, go to them with a 350+ page in 8.5x11 manuscript and they start sweating bullets.

We've got some amazing things in the Warriors of Legend series coming down the pipeline but we'll only be able to afford printing them if we make this first Arc-de-Triumph of a book a success, so we really need you to help out.

This article is also a first, or more like a teaser, in a series of updates planned for The Sailor Moon Soapbox by the book's authors and contributors on what it was like writing this book, publishing this book, and how it affected us. Jonathan Mays, for example, is going to talk about how being a part of the Warriors of Legend project was a way for him to come to grips with his own Sailor Moon fandom. Yosenex Orengo, who took many of the photos you see in the book, will discuss what it was like running around Tokyo's Minato ward, asking people for strange addresses and non-existent locations.

For this first article, though, let's talk about some recent history- the first 24 hours of the Warriors of Legend launch. We see this book as being born from fandom and a part of fandom, so we want you all to be along for the same ride we are.

We launched the Warriors of Legend website last night at a little past 11pm EST last night. Before that, all the WarriorsofLegend.com website files were written but not uploaded, so Google had never seen heads nor tails of the domain. A search for Warriors of Legend got you some information on a long-forgotten NES game. By 6 or 7 pm EST today, Warriorsoflegend.com was already the first hit for a search on Warriors of Legend. Needless to say, we are both delighted and impressed by it.

We're also pleased with the status of the Support Team and web campaign. They're doing quite well and we hope things only grow from there. If you haven't joined one or the other, please do so!

The one, unexpected bump in the road so far has been the issues with our publisher, Booksurge, shipping to Canada and a few other countries. Their shipping price is, in a word, ridiculous, and nearly the cost of the book itself. When word about the prices ($11.20!) to ship to Canada started coming in here we nearly panicked, knowing how many Canadian readers we had who'd be disappointed by this. We had been asking people to wait for Amazon but recent findings have negated this. As it turns out, even though the book will be listed on Amazon, it will be sold by Booksurge, and they'll still ream you for shipping. It's a few bucks cheaper (shipping in the US is $3.50 and to Canada $9.79) but still expensive. We've tried looking up other Booksurge books to see if they're listed on Amazon.ca but they're not there.

Currently we're trying to find out how to get Abe Books to carry it; their shipping to Canada is quite cheap. They had it earlier today but the book is now gone from their inventory for some reason. We'll keep you posted.

Another option: Request it from one of the major anime retailers. Either Right Stuf or Anime Nation.

Here's what Anime Nation says for getting imported stuff from Japan: Any in print Japanese released CD, LD, VHS, DVD, artbook or manga not listed on the site can be special ordered. PLEASE look through our site before e-mailing us. To special order you will need the item name and item code. Please e-mail both of those along with your name to newstuff@animenation.com. After we have researched the item(s) you have requested, the item(s) will be added to the site within the next week or so. You should then be notified via email that they are available to order. There is no extra charge for this service beyond of course the cost of the item and shipping it to you.

Please be polite, and use the order information. (ISBN and such.)

We've been really impressed by the coverage we've been getting from non-Sailor Moon press. Here are a few snapshots of pages which are talking about Warriors of Legend. Click on the thumbnail for the full pic.

We're incredibly grateful to these sites, it really means a lot to us to have the book up there. We're also thankful to other sites on our Support Team page for helping us out.

To us, seeing Warriors of Legend and Sailor Moon back on the front page of the general anime news sites says a lot about the staying power of this series, but also what's happened to it since it stopped airing in North America. Edit- Check out the ICv2 article for some interesting stuff on Sailor Moon, this book, and the marketplace that echoes our thoughts.
