Project WikiMoon
We're pleased to announce the launch of a new web development, called
Project Wikimoon. This is a Sailor
Moon wiki, along the lines of the famous
Memory Alpha
wiki for Star Trek- an online database of Sailor Moon knowledge that
anyone can edit and contribute to.
Please take a look at
http://www.wikimoon.org
The goal of the project is to not only develop comprehensive information on
the series itself, but the fandom as well. We'd like to provide a neutral
ground for information, which takes into account multiple viewpoints but
also gets to the truth behind events- eventually compiling a record of
Sailor Moon fandom in the west.
With the help of Wikimoon administration Dooky, who runs the fantastic
The Encylopaedia of Sailor Moon
site, we opened the project for updating only a week ago, and have set up
what we believe is only the foundation of the project. Wikimoon is something
we expect to be developed over a period of years.
It's just as easy for this project to fail as for it to be a success,
although we're certainly hoping for the latter. For it to be a success, we
need your help- all you have to do is add to the knowledge of the project.
Do the writeup of the page on your
favourite
character, share a bit of trivia, shed light on an
important
event in Sailor Moon fandom, write the info page for your
favourite Sailor Moon CD, or give details on your
favourite
Sailor Moon video game. Whatever you'd like to add is welcome.
We'd also very much appreciate it if you'd pass on word of the project to
other people who may be interested in contributing. Mention it in forums or
to your friends who are fans.
We do have some rules about the project, so if you're interested in working
on it, please pay attention:
-Please go through the wiki before trying to work on it. We've set up how
certain pages ought to look, and it would be best if the look stayed
consistent across the entire site. So, for example, we have a
template on
Sailor Moon CDs,
on
characters, etc. You can copy and paste from one page to start a new
one, and just edit the information.
-There's a
Styles
Guideline page which tells you how articles ought to be written, how
names ought to be spelled, etc. What's important with the wiki is
consistency, because a link to "Sailor Moon" and a link to "Sailormoon" are
two different things in the wiki code, and for the web to work it's all got
to follow the same usage. (In our case, we write "Sailor Moon.")
-Please be fair in your write ups on potentially divisive issues or groups.
We don't allow any bashing of people or organizations.
-Please don't be offended if someone edits your work.
-Please do not use text or images from other websites. If you write
something using another website as a basis for your information, be sure to
list it in the references of the page you're working on.
-Please think about whether the item you're item is perhaps too esoteric for
the website. For the time being we're looking to build up the basics, so we
don't need a page on an obscure fanfic, but we do need stuff like episode
guides.
-Upload your images to an external website like
ImageShack, and we'll move it to the
wikimoon server later.
If you'd like to learn more about how to work on a wiki, the
Mediawiki
help page has information on general coding rules. For example, putting
two sets of [ ] around a word automatically creates a link to that page; so
writing [[Sailor Moon]] will link to the "Sailor Moon" page, or create a new
one if the page does not yet exist.
We'd love for this project to be a
success, but for that we need your help. So please get involved and tell
others about it.
